Middlesboro (5-3) put on an offensive showcase on Monday to defeat Knox Central, 5-2. The win was the third straight victory over the Panthers this season.
“We clicked pretty well offensively. We’ve been working hard on moving the ball, transferring and getting shots off passes,” said Jacket head coach Tim Millett. “It went well for us. We had a lot of shots on goal.”
Evan Brock led the team in scoring with two goals. The two goals made Brock the second leading scorer for the Jackets with five goals this year.
Caleb Heck, Noah Brown and Joe Nagle also scored goals during the game. With his goal, Heck leads the team in goals with six.
“It’s just great to finally see some success in the game after our hard work in practice,” said Millett. “We’ve been getting some good shots in a lot of games but just haven’t been able to get it in the net. All the hard work finally paid off this game.”
The coach said the defense had some breakdowns in the first half.
“I really wasn’t pleased with a couple of defensive situations that happened during the first half,” said Millett. “We made a couple adjustments in the second half, and the defense was much better in the second half.”
The Panthers got on the board first during the game following a goal on a penalty kick 15 minutes into the first period.
Brock quickly followed suit on a penalty kick of his own at the 20-minute mark to tie the game 1-1. Brock scored his second goal of the game following an assist from Heck to put Middlesboro up 2-1.
Heck would later score a goal of his own off an assist from Will Nichols. Noah Brown put himself in position in front of the net and scored his goal after the keeper deflected the ball away from the net.
Joe Nagle was the final Jacket to score. He blasted the ball from 25 yards out into the top corner of the net.
Middlesboro held on to defeat Knox Central 5-2.
The Yellow Jackets will travel to North Laurel (4-8-1) on Friday in their final game of the season. The two teams were supposed to meet earlier in the year, but the game was cancelled due to weather.
“North Laurel traditionally is a very good team,” said Millett. “We’re looking forward to the challenge. We’re confident, and we’re realizing that hard work in practice pays off in the game.”
Knox Central (2-7) will also finish up their regular season at North Laurel on Monday.
