Student Participate in KVEC Entrepreneurial Challenge

Sierra Higgins, Cheyenne Marcum, and Addyson Smith

Several sixth grade students tried out their ingenuity and business skills as part of the KVEC (Kentucky Valley Education Cooperative) Entrepreneurial Challenge recently.  Students brainstormed a product or a service, developed a business plan, and prepared a presentation of their ideas.  Students competed at the district level at Middlesboro Middle School on Thursday, November 16th.  School winners then advanced to compete in the KVEC Challenge in Hindman on November 17, 2017.

Middlesboro Middle School performed well in Hindman with Addyson Smith, Sierra Higgins, and Cheyenne Marcum winning first place in Goods.  The girls made jewelry out of washers and then hand-painted each piece.  Their presentation was titled "Chase Your Dreams in the Crater."  They won a plaque and a cash prize.

Middlesboro Middle had another group win in the category of Most Creative and third place overall in Services.  Trey King, Brad King, and Tristian Hatfield presented "Crater City Ghost Walk", which would feature tours in the 19th Street section of town with both a historical and eerie flare for local visitors. This group also won a plaque and a cash prize for their efforts.

Both groups of students will present their ideas at the Summit Showcase hosted by KVEC in April.
