Middlesboro Independent Schools is a public school system located in southeastern Kentucky between Pine Mountain and the Cumberland Mountains, near the Cumberland Gap National Historical Park. Geologists believe the city of Middlesboro was built inside of a meteorite crater.
The mission of Middlesboro Independent Schools is to promote “a relentless dedication to motivate and inspire student success”. Mr. Steve Martin, district and school administrators, faculty and staff work tirelessly to foster a safe, caring, and supportive environment and believe that every student is a unique individual who deserves the best education possible.
Middlesboro Independent Schools include a quality preschool program, an innovative and progressive elementary school, a student-centered and technology driven middle school, and an outstanding academic high school focused on college and career readiness. MIS is a smaller system that, unlike larger school districts, is able to offer students the opportunity to receive more personalized attention. Students are not just a number at MIS. They are unique individuals who matter.
Tradition, Pride and Excellence all begin at Middlesboro Elementary School, continues at Middlesboro Middle School and is maintained and strengthened at Middlesboro High School.
