Middlesboro Independent recognizes the importance of continuous, uninterrupted teaching and learning, therefore, we are implementing a plan for Non-Traditional Instructional Days (NTI) for our students to combat the loss of instruction that occurs during school closings.
Definition:
Non-Traditional Instruction is a waiver granted by the state whereby students are still learning even though the school has been canceled due to hazardous weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
Communication:
Parents/students will be notified through the following methods:
- One Call Now Messaging system
- District and school webpages
- School’s Facebook page
- Local TV stations
- Local radio news outlets
Delivery Method:
Both digital and hard-copy content will be available for students on Non-Traditional School Days. The Middlesboro Public Library provides free internet for students who do not have access to it at home. Students will be given three days to complete and submit assignments after each NTI day. Extended time will be given to those who have IEP modifications/accommodations.
Availability of faculty:
Faculty will maintain an online presence from 9:00 AM- 12:00 and 1:00 PM – 4:00 on these days to provide assistance.
When:
Packets will be sent home in January.
Questions:
Please feel free to contact your child’s teacher or the Principal with any questions or concerns. You can find their emails by viewing our profile using our staff directory.

SchoolPointe Learning Management System (LMS)
Many of the staff within the Middlesboro Independent School District have selected to use SchoolPointe Learning Management System (LMS). The LMS is an e-learning platform that allows instructors to post an update class material, interact with students, and can be used by middle school and high school instructors. The instructions for using the LMS have been sent home with the NTI packets, however, if you need another copy you can find them here.
If you are experiencing any technical difficulties, please contact the School Library Media Specialists.
