MHS Radio Station WYJR

WYJR

Two years ago Mr. Chuck Owens wrote a grant proposal to establish a radio station at MHS.  Today, station 95.5 WYJR FM-LP is part of everyday life at our school.  Under the guidance of Mr. Owens, a select group of students run the stations day to day play of a variety of music that airs across the city 24 hours a day 7 days a week.  Students enjoy the station during lunch over the PA in the cafeteria as well as in their cars and at home.  Information about the school as well as public service announcements are also played at strategic times during the daily programming.  MHS invites area listeners to tune in for broadcasting of home basketball, baseball, and softball games over the course of the school year.  Students involved in the radio station are learning about a communications pathway that may lead them to work in the radio or TV entertainment industry in the future.  Pictured (L to R) Robert Bush, MHS teacher Mr. Chuck Owens, and Trixie Capps at the broadcast desk of the station discussing the daily program for WYJR-FM LP.
