Middlesboro Middle School’s Fall Showcase and Leadership Day

Leadership Day

Middlesboro Middle School and GEAR UP had excellent attendance by families and community members for their Educational Showcase and Leadership Day on October 20th.  More than 300 family members, community members, students and staff attended the event.  The hallways were decorated with a fall theme and a variety of projects displayed from each grade level on the walls.  Student leaders from MMS’s LEAD program which is the middle school version of the Leader In Me Program served as guides and facilitators for the event. The evening started in the Arts Building with an excellent performance portraying the importance of the Constitution by the 5th grade.  Then everyone gathered in MMS cafeteria where they were served a meal, along with delicious caramel apples and homemade funnel cakes. The MMS choir and band gave excellent performances.  During the last hour there were a variety of educational booths for parents to visit for further explanation on important information concerning their child’s education, including Parent Portal, Star and Map Testing, ILP’s, IXL, Study Island, Social Media, Site-Based Decision Making Council update, and the Impact of Good Attendance. Parents were invited to download Remind App and Signal Vine to receive informative text messages from school.  Parents and guardians were given their student’s K-Prep scores along with an explanation about the scores.  MMS serves grades 5-8, and every classroom was open for families and community members to view and ask questions.  We want to thank everyone who helped make this event a huge success.
