Welcome to Middlesboro Elementary School, where we foster a passion for learning in a supportive and nurturing environment. Founded in 1964 as West End Elementary, our school has always prioritized academic excellence for every student. Currently serving PreK through fourth grade, we continue to inspire a love for learning and academic growth while meeting the individual needs of each child.
As our students embark on their educational journey, they become part of the Jacket Family, supported by dedicated and hardworking educators who are committed to preparing them for their future. We encourage curiosity and creativity in the classroom and place great importance on developing social skills and fostering friendships. Together, we are laying the foundation for our future leaders.
We are excited to integrate STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) education and project-based learning into our everyday curriculum. This approach allows our students to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
We are also proud of our two Lego League teams, who apply the skills they've gained through our STEAM programs as they compete in Lego League competitions. Their accomplishments are a source of pride, and we look forward to many more successes.
In addition, our third through fifth graders are part of our Academic Team, which has earned the title of District Champions five times, competing at both the district and regional levels. Their dedication and hard work continue to inspire us all.
At Middlesboro Elementary, we believe in offering a well-rounded education. Students have the chance to participate in a variety of extracurricular activities, including clubs and leadership opportunities. Our fall Running Club meets twice a week, and students help organize a community-wide 5K at the end of the season. Our school also has a news crew that manages the daily morning announcements. Other activities include mail delivery, flag crew, safety patrol, cafeteria crew, Lego League, the Leadership Team, and Student Council.
We are committed to providing a high-quality education in a supportive environment, laying the groundwork for future success and well-rounded academic achievement.
Our Jacket Pledge:
“I was created for a purpose. Today, I will make good choices. Today, I will listen. Today, I will learn. Today, I will do my best. I am a Jacket.”
As a proud K-12 Middlesboro alumna, I am thrilled to welcome you to our Jacket Family.
Welcome to Middlesboro Middle School. We strive to ensure students have a successful middle school experience. We are proud of our school, faculty, students, and staff. We serve 5th through 8th grades and prepare them to move on with the skills and work ethic they need to graduate high school and become good community members. We are committed to providing your children with the best education and skills for success as possible. We are partnered with the Kentucky Department of Education’s United We Learn and Portrait of a Learner programs. Providing many pathways for student success.

Students have core content classes in Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies and Science. Each grade level will also have enrichment and activity classes, that are specific to their grade and content areas. Activity classes consist of Art, Music, Band, Choir, Physical Education, Library and Study Skills. Enrichment classes include Project Lead the Way including Introduction to Engineering and Introduction to Computer Science, Composition, Environmental Studies, Kentucky Studies, Visual and Performing Arts, Health, College and Career Exploration, Arts and Humanities and Math Applications. Tutoring and interventions are provided for those students who may need additional assistance with understanding specific content skills. The academic departments strive to provide an academic environment where students can learn and grow as individuals. We believe that all students can learn, and it is our goal to provide the necessary skills for every student to be successful.
Technology & STEM
We are excited to integrate STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) into our curriculum. Therefore, the incorporation of technology into all aspects of learning is essential. Through the Verizon Innovative Learning Program, every student and teacher at MMS is provided with a personal chromebook equipped with LTE data service to be used for the current school year. Beginning in the 2025-2026 school year, we will be a Nationally certified STEM school. Furthermore, in coordination with our high school, we also offer Algebra and STEM classes. Both 7th and 8th grade students are offered STEM classes, and Algebra is offered to 8th grade students. These students may receive high school credit and could then take advanced mathematics classes during their high school career.
Extra-Curricular Activities
We offer all the standard sports teams as well as top notch Academic Teams, Lego teams, Math Counts, Science Olympiad, Entrepreneurial Club, Technology Team, Band, Choir, Art and Student council.
Mission Statement
We believe all students can learn and every student matters. We accept the responsibility for creating a safe learning environment that will allow students to learn and grow, providing them the knowledge to be lifelong learners, productive citizens and College and Career Reading upon high school graduation.
Vision
Middlesboro Middle School will empower all students to meet or exceed expectations for academic, social and emotional growth and success.
