A Message from Superintendent William (Bill) Jones
Middlesboro Independent Schools

Dear Students, Families, Staff, and the Entire Middlesboro Community,

It is with great pride and heartfelt gratitude that I introduce myself as the new Superintendent of Middlesboro Independent Schools. This is not just a professional milestone for me—it is deeply personal. I am a proud graduate of Middlesboro Independent, and I can truly say: I love my district, and I love my Yellow Jackets.

This district has shaped who I am today, and this is a tremendous honor. I’ve walked the same halls as many of our students, been taught by the same level of caring and dedicated educators and experienced firsthand the strength of this community. Middlesboro is where I grew up—not just in age, but in values, character, and purpose. Now, it’s my turn to give back.

Over the course of more than 32 years in education, I’ve served in many roles—from classroom teacher JROTC, to principal, and now to district leader. Each role has strengthened my belief that public education, when done right, has the power to change lives. And there is no place I’d rather do this work than right here in Middlesboro.

As your superintendent, I will be guided by a few core principles:

·         Students will always come first. Every decision we make must help them learn, grow, and thrive.

·         Teachers and staff deserve strong, steady support. You are the heartbeat of our schools, and I am committed to ensuring you have what you need to succeed.

·         Families and community members are partners. I will listen, communicate openly, and work side by side with you to make our district the best it can be.

·         We will celebrate our strengths and tackle challenges head-on—with unity, transparency, and a shared belief in what we can achieve together.

In the coming weeks, I’ll begin visiting schools, classrooms, and community spaces as part of a "Listening and Learning Tour." I want to hear your stories, your ideas, and your hopes for the future of Middlesboro Independent Schools. Our district has so much to be proud of—and even more potential ahead. Together, we’ll build on our tradition of excellence and continue creating opportunities for every student to succeed.

I am truly honored to serve the district that gave me so much, now serving as your superintendent. Thank you for the warm welcome and for the trust you’ve placed in me. I can’t wait to see what we accomplish—together—as a Yellow Jacket family.
