Middlesboro Independent Schools Seeking Educational Surrogate Parents
Middlesboro Independent Schools is seeking individuals interested in serving as Educational Surrogate Parents for students with disabilities when a parent or guardian is unavailable to represent the student in the special education process.
Educational Surrogate Parents help ensure that eligible students have someone to represent their educational interests and participate in decisions related to special education evaluation, eligibility, Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and services.
Individuals selected to serve as educational surrogates will receive training regarding special education procedures and their responsibilities in this role.
Educational Surrogate Parents must not be employed by the school district, KDE, or another agency involved in the education or care of the child; must have no personal or professional conflict of interest with the child; and must have the knowledge and skills necessary to adequately represent the child's educational interests. Training will be provided. If you are interested in learning more about becoming an Educational Surrogate Parent, please contact the Middlesboro Independent Schools Department of Special Education at 606-242-8807.
